Mamata ignores Nitish, now all hopes on Shahnawaz
Fears came true on Wednesday when union minister for railways Mamata Banerjee read out her Rail budget speech ignoring the requests made by State Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for trains and projects in the state. Bhagalpur and the region has almost drawn blank in this budget despite much hyped good political relationship between Mamata Banerjee and Nistish Kumar. However, now all hopes rest on local MP Shahnawaz Hussein, whose name was taken by Mamata during the budget assuring him of looking into the demands put up by him.

Maoists blow up tracks, kill police informer during bandh
The Maoists on Sunday blew up tracks on the Jhaja-Jasidih
section of the East Central Railway in Bihar’s Jamui district and
killed an alleged police informer in Orissa’s Sundergarh district to
enforce a 72-hour bandh in five states—West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand,
Orissa and Chhattisgarh. The three-day bandh has been called by the CPI
(Maoist) to protest against the joint offensive being planned by the
states against them. Union home minister P Chidambaram is also
scheduled to meet chief ministers of West Bengal, Orissa, Bihar and
Jharkhand in Kolkata on Tuesday.

Widow raped for practising witchcraft
In a shocking incident, two
persons outraged the modesty of a 50-year-old widow and shoved stone
pebbles inside her private parts at a village in Banka district on
Saturday. The accused persons suspected the victim practised witchcraft
and killed a six-month-old baby by her black magic at Gangti
village under Goradih block in neighbouring Bhagalpur district.
